A disturbing Baltimore County child abuse case has resulted in the arrest of Jerimiah Jones, who is accused of inflicting catastrophic injuries on his 1-year-old daughter while he was caring for her and two other children.
The alleged incident occurred on July 13, 2026.
According to the account attributed to Jones, he was changing his daughter’s diaper when what he described as a “freak accident” occurred.
Jones allegedly claimed that one of the other children suddenly jumped on him, causing his finger to accidentally penetrate his daughter.
But authorities allege what happened afterward raises additional questions.
Despite the baby’s injuries, Jones allegedly did not immediately call an ambulance or take her to a hospital.
Instead, he reportedly said he “panicked” and waited approximately 35 minutes before contacting the child’s mother, who was at work.
According to the allegations, the mother did not immediately leave work and instead completed the remainder of her shift before returning home.
The account states that another approximately 45 minutes passed after she arrived before police were finally contacted.
The baby was subsequently transported to a hospital suffering from uncontrollable vaginal bleeding.
A CPS investigation followed.
According to the information provided, CPS directed that Jones be removed from the home and have no contact with the children while the case was investigated.
However, prosecutors allege that order was not followed.
The child’s mother allegedly asked a friend to take the children to their grandmother’s home rather than removing Jones. She also reportedly created a meal train seeking assistance following her daughter’s “medical emergency,” while the account alleges the severity of the child’s injuries was significantly understated.
The mother and children were later placed in a hotel for their safety.
But prosecutors say police subsequently discovered Jones inside the hotel room with them, despite the no-contact directive.
On August 25, 2026, Jones was arrested.
He is charged with first-degree child abuse causing severe physical injury, second-degree child abuse, sеxual abuse of a minor and second-degree rаpe of a helpless individual.
According to court documents cited in the account, the baby’s injuries allegedly caused internal bleeding and were severe enough that they could have been fatal.
A veteran SAFE nurse, specially trained to examine patients following alleged sеxual assaults and document their injuries, reportedly described the child’s injuries as the worst case she had encountered during her 16-year career.
Jones is being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 18. According to the information provided, he could face up to 85 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
