There is a difference between having an opinion and choosing to mock a murdered child. One is freedom of speech. The other reveals a disturbing lack of compassion.
A Facebook comment attributed to Christopher Dobbins, described as a father and business owner from Millington, Tennessee, has sparked outrage after a disturbing remark about 5-year-old Rhoam Summer.
Rhoam was a young child with special needs who was shot and killed at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. In the photograph being discussed, he wore a shirt bearing the words “Peace, Respect, Unity.”
The comment attributed to Dobbins read:
“With a shirt like that the kid wasn’t going to Mount to shit anyways”
According to the account shared online, Dobbins later issued an apology after receiving criticism. He described his comment as a mistake and a life lesson, and expressed regret if he had hurt anyone, including Rhoam’s family.
