Arrest made in Central West End homicide
A suspect has been charged after a missing 23-year-old man was found dead early Wednesday morning in the Central West End.
St. Louis police were called around 1 a.m. to the 4200 block of Olive Street after the missing man’s phone was pinged. Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
University City Police identified the victim as Jardyn Walker, who was reported missing Tuesday after he failed to show up at the Amazon Hazelwood plant to ride home with his sister. Walker was last seen delivering packages in the University City area. The car he was last driving was found at the scene.
Police believe the case may be connected to an earlier shots-fired call in the area. A vehicle seen leaving the scene was later stopped near Boyle and Lindell, where an officer observed weapons inside the car and made an arrest.
Wednesday afternoon, authorities announced Jamaal Jones, 27, has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and tampering with evidence.
According to charging documents, a witness identified Jones as the shooter. Police say Jones admitted to firing the gun, claiming he feared for his life, and was found with shell casings in his pocket at the time of his arrest. Another witness reported hearing gunshots as Walker was leaving an apartment the night of the shooting.
The investigation remains ongoing.
