According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, the crash was reported around 9:20 a.m. and involved a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck just south of Modoc Point. The collision blocked the highway in both directions while emergency crews responded for hours.
One of the vehicles became fully engulfed in flames following the crash. Authorities have not released full details as of this writing, but at least one person (Chris Collins) may have died in the crash.
The Oregon State Police are expected to release additional information as the investigation continues. The crash highlights the ongoing safety concerns along one of Southern Oregon’s busiest travel corridors.
