SENEGALESE MAN REPORTEDLY INVOLVED IN MASS SHOOTING THAT LEFT 3 DEAD AND 14 INJURED IN TEXAS
A 53-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Senegal, identified as Ndiaga Diagne, who was reportedly living in Pflugerville, Texas, has been linked to a deadly shooting outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden in the West 6th Street entertainment district of Austin, Texas.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:59 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Authorities say Diagne drove around the area several times before allegedly opening fire from his vehicle toward people gathered outside the bar. He later exited the vehicle and continued shooting before officers confronted him.
The attack left 3 people dead and 14 others injured, and is now being investigated by the FBI for a possible terrorism connection.
Three officers from the Austin Police Department reportedly responded within seconds and returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect. Officials say the quick response by officers likely prevented further casualties.
According to People.com, emergency responders reported that 17 people were shot in total, with 14 transported to hospitals, including several in critical condition.
AP News reports that investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force have joined the investigation after items recovered at the scene suggested a possible link to terrorism. However, authorities emphasize that the motive has not yet been officially confirmed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Reports indicate that the suspect was wearing a shirt that read “Property of Allah,” and that a Qur’an was found in his vehicle. Some observers have speculated about possible motivations, including current geopolitical tensions, but official investigators have not confirmed any such connection.
