Police say officers responded to the shooting just before 1 p.m. in the 3300 block of Buchanan Avenue, near Jackson Avenue.
Investigators say they found a male victim and pronounced him dead on the scene.
Your News Leader crews watched the victim’s car being towed away from the scene—with the body still inside—as a large crime scene unfolded with officers from various law enforcement agencies.
Sandra Hawthorne said police are being very limited with information, but says her nephew was shot while sitting inside his vehicle.
“Put your guns down. You don’t have to kill just because you jealous. Memphis is full of jealousy,” Hawthorne said. “The police are not saying anything. They will not let us down there to see our family or nothing and I don’t appreciate the Memphis Police Department for that. They get no points.”
His aunt described him as a kind, quiet man, who was a father of three children.
Officials say the suspect’s vehicle is dark grey or silver.
