BACKDOORED: Family still demanding justice for Rayvonta Deas who was killed by Elijah William Woeppel, Cooper Lee Hawkins and Jerell Tresean McMillan

A man was convicted of murder and desecration of human remains in a 2022 killing.

Jerell Tresean McMillan, 19, of Sheep Island, was convicted of murder, desecration of human remains, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and third-degree aggravated assault and battery, and arson.

Evidence presented at trial showed that McMillan lured Rayvonta Deas into an abandoned lot on Black Tom Road in Moncks Corner under a pretense of a marijuana transaction while planning instead to rob him on July 6, 2022, between 8 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. The victim arrived in his vehicle with two teenage girls and was gunned down by McMillan while his two 17-year-old co-defendants acted as lookouts.

Deas was shot in the back of the head, killing him. A stray bullet hit one of the girls above her eye and in the leg. After killing him, one of the co-defendants refused McMillan’s order to kill both girls, which led to the girls escaping and going to a nearby hospital, where police were notified.

Outstanding job by Managing Assistant Solicitor F. Alexander Myers and Assistant Solicitor Kayla Donato.

Myers expressed relief that McMillan would no longer be a threat to the community “Today the jury spoke clearly:  Jerell McMillan’s cold and calculated murder of Rayvonta Deas, followed by the desecration of his remains called for the max. Judge Young’s life-without-parole sentence ensures McMillan will never again prey on our community.”
