“Nick Rivas and I split up and had been living apart since April 2025.
On Friday 1/23/26, Nick Rivas received a letter for an initial court date that was to take place 2/11/2026 to discuss child support (as he had never paid any support throughout the 10 months since we separated). Over that weekend, he sent me text messages saying โbiggest mistake of your lifeโ โyou fucked upโ โis this what you wantโ. These were threats, in my mind. I was feeling fearful. I sent a screenshot of his words to our family mediator to try to document something; I received no reply. I was desperate for someone to do something or help me leading up to this court date. I was desperate for protection.
“I called the cops Sunday 1/25/26 stating that I was nervous over these seemingly threatening text messages. An officer came to my residence and I begged for a police report to be filed just to document how he was acting and what he was saying to me, in case anything escalated in the future over this. The Greece Police officer stated there was no threatening language being used and nothing criminal being done on Nickโs end. I cried and I begged for the cops to do something before it got out of hand. They did nothing and left.
“His final texts to me on 1/26/26 at 9:16PM were โIโll always do whatโs best for Axel and Iโ, followed by:
โRevelation 21:4
โHe will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.โโ This is when I knew something was extremely wrong. That bible scripture was of course about death. Nick was not religious at all, he was in fact atheist. I immediately called 911 for a welfare check on Nick.
“On the night of 1/26/26 Nick Rivas used a firearm to murder our son and then killed himself. He stayed locked inside his townhome where Greece Police refused to knock the door down, and once we called Fetzner Square maintenance to get the door unlocked, the cops still refused to go inside โper their ordersโ, leaving our family and friends to go inside to discover the devastation that had happened.
“The Greece Police Department failed Axel multiple times. The court system and their useless pre-court date โsafety precautionsโ failed us. Women and children need better protections in place when they feel fearful in domestic situations such as this.
“My son is gone forever OVER MONEY – because his father did not want to pay child support.”
