A man has been arrested and charged following the investigation into a hate motivated incident that occurred at a Costco in Halifax on July 4.
At approximately 3 p.m. on July 9, with the assistance of RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, a man was arrested at a residence in Port Dufferin.
During the arrest, the man brandished a weapon and officers deployed a conductive energy weapon. He was treated on scene by EHS and medically cleared.
Randall Byron Publicover, 37, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
• Public incitement of hatred
• Assault
• Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death (x4)
• Mischief (x2)
• Resist peace officer
• Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
The investigation is ongoing.
Halifax Regional Police thank the public who came forward to help identify the suspect.
Crimes and incidents motivated by hate are taken very seriously. If someone finds themselves exposed to behaviour that is offensive, threatening or intimidating, they are encouraged to report it to police. Even if an investigation does not find criminal wrongdoing, it is important to have it on record.
