Heartbreaking news about the shooter in Adair County:
38-year-old Ryan Sneed of Columbia is believed to have killed his mother, Joyce Sneed, and his aunt, Debra Clark, at a home on Lakeview Drive.
Around 10:00 a.m., he was reportedly seen sitting outside on his porch with a man named Michael (his relation is unknown at this time). Shortly after, a 911 call came in claiming that Ryan had dragged the man into the house and shot him.
When law enforcement arrived, Ryan allegedly began firing from inside the home, shooting out of windows and pinning officers down. Officers were eventually able to move to safety. He was later seen upstairs, appearing to have a vantage point over the scene.
At one point, Ryan reportedly told officers he intended to kill members of his family. This led police to check on relatives, where they discovered at least two victims deceased. It’s been reported that his aunt’s throat had been cut and his mother had also been killed.
Throughout the standoff, officers heard multiple gunshots coming from inside the home. At one point, they also heard someone screaming in pain, which they believed may have been from a self-inflicted injury. Ryan later contacted the mother of his children and told her that the man identified as Michael was dead.
Police began searching for other family members, including his sister and her boyfriend. While they initially had difficulty locating his sister, they were eventually able to get statements from her and their father through the boyfriend.
The standoff lasted approximately 8 hours. During that time, Ryan communicated with officers intermittently and at one point indicated he might surrender, but he never followed through. He also claimed to have explosives inside the home. Due to safety concerns, law enforcement deployed gas multiple times, used drones, and called in a Special Response Team. Gunfire from inside the house continued periodically throughout the ordeal.
Around 6:00 p.m., officers opened fire and Ryan was taken down. There has been no official confirmation on his condition, but it is believed he may be deceased.
As of around 7:00 p.m., law enforcement was still working to clear the home to ensure it was safe for investigators to enter.
Ryan Sneed reportedly had an extensive criminal history, with over 40 prior arrests.
Prayers and condolences go out to the families of all those affected by this tragic situation.
