Man, 4‑year‑old son killed in Albany drag‑racing crash; 2 arrested
Albany police say a drag‑racing crash on Krug Street on Saturday left a 26‑year‑old man and his 4‑year‑old son dead and two others injured.
The Albany Police Department said the wreck occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Krug Street, after the driver was engaged in drag racing. Officers identified the man who died at the scene as Rickey Thomas, 26, and the other victim as his 4‑year‑old son. Two other victims were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said the crash happened when a vehicle traveling at a high speed lost control and hit a group of vehicles. Police identified the driver as Brandon King, 24, and charged him with two counts of homicide by vehicle in 1st degree, reckless driving, and racing on highway/exhibition of speed or acceleration.
Police said the driver of another racing vehicle, Jacob Daniels Jr., 25, initially left the scene, but later returned and was taken into custody, and was also charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle in 1st degree, racing on highway/exhibition of speed or acceleration, and reckless driving.
