A car crashed into a crowd at the Lao New Year celebration in New Iberia, Louisiana, injuring at least 15 people, some critically. The driver, 57-year-old Todd Landry, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, careless operation, open container, and 18 counts of first-degree negligent injuring. Authorities believe the crash wasn’t intentional.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. near the corner of Savannakhet Street and Melancon Road. Thirteen people were taken to the hospital, with two airlifted. Festival organizers canceled the evening’s music programs and alcohol sales.
