The Indianapolis music community is mourning tonight after multiple reports confirmed the death of Indianapolis rapper and producer Playbwoi The Great, whose real name was Cornell Davis.
Davis was widely known throughout the city’s hip-hop scene and was also recognized by many fans for his past ties to Lil Boosie.
Friends, artists, and local platforms have already begun posting tributes and condolences across social media following news of the shooting.
According to early reports, IMPD is investigating a deadly shooting Tuesday night on the city’s east side in the 6000 block of Windsor Drive, near East 21st Street and Arlington Avenue.
Police say a man was found inside a home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, authorities have not officially released additional details publicly regarding suspects or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The loss comes at a time when Indianapolis hip-hop has been at the center of major conversations over the past several weeks, making the news even more devastating for many throughout the city’s music community.

My son just turned 17 not a little kid, he can see all these insensitive post, please think about peoples feelings, my son was a daddy’s boy and he is not taking this well. Please please please I’m begging please stop speculating and making him seem like a bad person . No he was not beating a woman, No he was not breaking into a house. He loved his kids and lived for his kids. Please pray for my son.”
